Development of music videos

Music videos that resonate with me
Vogue- Madonna
This music video has a constant colour scheme of black and white to emphasise the chic and elegant nature of vogue.

Bad Romance- Lady Gaga

This music video has elements of a futuristic design though also clinical, representing the shear uniqueness of the video which makes it stand out from generic designs

Running up that hill- Kate Bush

This video has a dream-like mood and atmosphere, parallel to the meaning of the song which is to represent the fundamental misunderstandings of people in love.
Like a Prayer- Madonna

Thriller- Michael Jackson
This music video had a very large cultural impact as it was one of the first to combine cinematic storytelling with elaborate choreography in a music video.

Goodwin's Theory
5 key ingredients for a music video
Genre Characteristics- music videos demonstrate genre characteristics (eg stage performance for a metal band, or dance routine for a girl/boy band)
Lyrics and Visuals- there's a relationship between lyrics and visuals (either illustrative, amplifying or contradicting)
Music and visuals- the demands of the record label will include the need for a lot of close ups of the artist
Close ups and Motifs- there's frequent reference to notion of looking and voyeristic treatment

Beauty Advert

This is my advert for a beauty product of my choosing. I chose to do a cocoa butter Vaseline because it is a product I use everyday so I know it is a trusted product. I first took a photo of my product with a plain background in a bright room so it was easy to remove the background. I then sent this photo to my email to then be imported to Photoshop. I decided to make the background white and brown as these are the identifying colours of a cocoa butter Vaseline. To create a warped effect I used the gradient tool and then used a grid effect to make it circular around the product. To make this product come alive I downloaded a PNG image of cocoa beans, to which I imported and removed the background. In order to make it seem as though it is exploding out of the product, I used the layering tool to place this cocoa beans layer behind the Vaseline but in front of the background. This creates the illusion that the product is bursting with flavour and also creates a sense of fun for such a simple product. However due to the brightness of the background and the shade of the cocoa beans, the Vaseline looked dull and lacking in colour, therefore I had to increase the hue, the saturation and the brightness in order for the product to comply with the background in harmony. To finish my advertisement, I added a slogan to catch attention. I chose 'Natural Butter, Natural Beauty' as this reinforces the idea that the brand Vaseline is organic and uses all natural ingredients. Finally I added a simple hashtag of #VictoryWithVaseline as the letter V is a fricative sound which aligns with a buzzing noise typically assigned with bees. Bees are known for their ability to pollenate and their impact on the environment, so I wanted this product to also look natural and linking to the environment due to its natural ingredients. this hashtag also appeals to the digital native as many of their target customers are using online platforms today. My original design was complete though I felt that it was missing something, so I thought I would add some palm leaves so further the tropical theme. I chose this specific design as it gives a sense of life and growth for the product, synonymous to the hashtag and slogan. Overall, I believe I have created a very effective advertisement in promoting the brand Vaseline.

SHSG Print Advert

This print advert is a representation of my sixth form, Southend high school for girls. AS a school we pride ourselves on our outstanding results, our community spirit and our growth. I wanted my advertisement to contain features which help to assist our school's narrative.
To begin with, we had to take our own photos using cameras. However this was the first time I had been exposed to this technology and therefore found it trickier. I began to develop an understanding of these cameras and slowly started to figure out which different components delivered which effects. for example, if you used a grid you could use the rule of thirds technique which made you photos look more professional and poised.
Once we had collated our photos we had to begin to think about our design. I wanted a simple yet effective advert. To create our adverts we used Photoshop. This is a platform which allows you to edit and warp photos of your choosing. I had also never used this platform before and therefore struggled to figure out how to do the intended adjustments to my advert. In the bottom right photo and in the school emblem I used a wand tool to remove the background and sharpen the edges. I decided to also make the background dark green, as this is the school's colour, to be easily recognisable. I finally also included the schools slogan of "safe, happy, successful" as this determines a sense of warmth and familiarity towards the audience if they intend to come to this school.
